Surreal Selfies
The first section of third graders finished their Magritte inspired self-portrait prints. They had to try three different images on their plate. One facing front with an object on their face, one from the back and one where the inside of their silhouette was something other than their face/body. Each student made four prints and they chose their best image to submit.
As this class was working, one student made a rainbow on their face and I commented on how it reminded me of the book "A Bad Case of Stripes" and we instantly had rainbows everywhere. If this book is part of your classroom library, it would be a good tie in to the lesson. More details about this lesson can be found here. We used crayola washable markers on 6x9 scratchfoam sheets.
